My aim is to encourage the local community to take more interest and therefore a more active role in local government decision making.

I aim with the help and support of the people of Gillingham to work with my fellow councillors in developing this town into one that we are all proud of, happy to live and work in, a town that our young people will choose to come back to after their years at College and University; for the future of our town rests with those young people.

Though I am the Chairman of “Save Our Wyke” I have not become a town councillor to stand in opposition to development, This town must move forward and I welcome progress but I am determined to fight for the people of Gillingham’s right to choose what development happens here and where it goes. The Greenfield site at Wyke surrounded by historical listed buildings, where people walk their dogs every day is a case in point of trying to force development into the wrong place.

Through my meetings with the local populous it has been very apparent, general feeling is that this town is in need of development even redevelopment, on the tip of most people’s tongues is the regeneration of our high street, though some mentioned childcare and playgroup facilities whilst others are concerned how such a vast population increase proposed in the “New Plan” and consequently larger class sizes will effect the excellence of our renowned Secondary School.

I want us to have more say in how our town develops, more input regarding the things that we do want in Gillingham and those that we do not. Whilst the people of Gillingham have found their voice, they need to be heard, for it is they that will define the future of this town and it is my aim to bring the local community and the decision makers together.

My first step will be to hold “Ward Surgeries” every Thursday between 4 and 8pm for the people of the Rural Ward, to listen to any ideas or problems that they may have.
