On Thursday 6th June 2024 the following events will take place in Gillingham to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day:
đ¸ 8.00 am - the D-Day 80 Proclamation (this will be read by the Mayor by the Oak tree in the High Street)
đ¸ 6.30 pm - Ringing out for peace
đ¸ 7.00 pm - Event at Hardings Park followed by the lighting of a beacon
đ¸ 9.15 pm - Beacon lighting, alongside the reading of the International Tribute
At 7.00 pm, prior to the beacon lighting at Hardings Park, there will be:
đļ Music by Gillingham Imperial Silver Band and the Wessex Military Band;
đĨ a drumhead service officiated by the Revd Canon Tim Heaton;
đŦđ§ a parade of Standards;
đī¸ an Army Cadet parade and review,
đļ popular 1940s songs sung by Gillingham school children.
